What is ST (Scheduled Tribe)?

The Scheduled Tribe (ST) category in Karnataka has a 3% reservation of state quota seats. This includes all communities listed under the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order for Karnataka. Candidates need a Caste/Income Certificate from the jurisdictional Tahasildar. No creamy layer criterion applies. Fee reimbursement at government medical colleges is administered by the Scheduled Tribes Welfare Department (not the Backward Classes Welfare Department); check the latest departmental notification for current income eligibility thresholds. ST candidates are also eligible to compete for GM seats.
