Karnataka has 66 medical colleges participating in NEET-UG counselling — 24 government, 36 private, 6 deemed. Together they offer 12,594 MBBS seats across state quota and All India Quota rounds.
These colleges are in 29 cities. Bengaluru (Bangalore) has the most with 17, followed by Mangaluru (Mangalore) (7), Kalaburagi (Gulbarga) (4), Mysuru (Mysore) (3), Mandya (2).
The average intake per college is 191 seats. A J Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre has the largest intake at 250 seats with a 1,104-bed teaching hospital; Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research has the smallest at 50. Combined hospital bed capacity across all colleges is 49,049, averaging 743 per institution.
Government colleges account for 4,249 seats (34% of total) while private and deemed institutions contribute 8,345. Candidates targeting lower fees should focus on government colleges, where competition is stiffer.
