Medical colleges in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu has 79 medical colleges participating in NEET-UG counselling — 38 government, 28 private, 13 deemed. Together they offer 13,500 MBBS seats across state quota and All India Quota rounds.

These colleges are in 42 cities. Chennai has the most with 15, followed by Coimbatore (5), Salem (3), Trichy (3), Chengalpattu (2).

The average intake per college is 171 seats. Annai Medical College & Hospital has the largest intake at 250 seats with a 932-bed teaching hospital; AIIMS, Madurai has the smallest at 50. Combined hospital bed capacity across all colleges is 77,785, averaging 985 per institution.

Government colleges account for 5,200 seats (39% of total) while private and deemed institutions contribute 8,300. Candidates targeting lower fees should focus on government colleges, where competition is stiffer.
