What is Scheduled Caste?

The Scheduled Caste (SC) category in Karnataka has a 15% reservation of state quota seats. This covers all communities listed under the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order for Karnataka. Candidates must produce a Caste/Income Certificate issued by the jurisdictional Tahasildar at the time of document verification. No creamy layer criterion applies to SC candidates. Fee reimbursement at government medical colleges is administered by the Social Welfare Department (not the Backward Classes Welfare Department); check the latest Social Welfare Department notification for current income eligibility thresholds. Vacant SC seats follow the state's inter-se vacancy filling rules. SC candidates can also compete for GM seats on merit.
