Rajasthan MBBS counselling: round-by-round exit rules
Rajasthan runs the steepest entry filter in the country. A private-medical candidate puts down five lakh just to take part in choice filling. The state's other distinctive feature is a 25% horizontal reservation for women, one of the most generous in India. Both shape how a family should approach the form.

This page covers the Medical Education Department's state counselling for the 85% Rajasthan quota in government colleges and the seats in private and deemed colleges.

The Medical Education Department conducts counselling at rajugneet2025.in for the state quota.
Security deposit, by category
The deposit scales sharply by college type. Reserved categories are reported to pay a lower government deposit, though families should confirm the exact split against the year's booklet.
| You are filing for | Security deposit (refundable) |
|---|---|
| Government colleges (general) | ₹10,000 |
| Government colleges (SC, ST, OBC, MBC reported) | ₹5,000 |
| Deemed universities | ₹25,000 |
| Private / NRI medical colleges | ₹5,00,000 |
The five-lakh private deposit is genuine, not a typo. It is refundable, held to keep casual applicants out of private choice filling, and lost in full if you take a private allotment later and walk away. Registration fee is around ₹2,500 for general, OBC and EWS candidates and ₹1,500 for SC and ST.
How the rounds work
Rajasthan runs the main rounds, a mop-up and a stray round. Round 1 is safe: an allotment you do not report to costs nothing, and a withdrawal before the published deadline keeps the deposit whole. Use it to learn what your rank fetches. Round 2 is the trap, where five lakh can vanish in an afternoon: a private allotment you refuse forfeits the deposit in full. Later rounds keep the forfeiture rule and tighten reporting.
Reservation and eligibility
Domicile. Rajasthan domicile, typically Class 10 and 12 from the state, for the state quota. NRI seats are exempt.
Reservation. SC 16%, ST 12%, OBC 21%, the most-backward-classes (MBC) slab 5%, and EWS 10%, with PwD 3% as a horizontal quota. The notable feature is a 25% horizontal reservation for women, applied across categories. Defence and paramilitary wards and ex-servicemen carry small horizontal quotas. Category benefit needs a Rajasthan-issued certificate.
What this means for your choices
The five-lakh forfeiture is a deterrent built to make you serious. Verify a private college's full cost — tuition, hostel, bank-guarantee — before it goes on the Round 2 list, never after the allotment lands. For women candidates, the 25% horizontal quota meaningfully widens what your rank can reach, so build the preference list around the seats that quota actually opens. Government-seat candidates carry a smaller ₹10,000 or ₹5,000 risk but the same Round 2 discipline.
