Uttarakhand MBBS counselling: round-by-round exit rules
Uttarakhand follows the standard shape: a free Round 1, then forfeiture on any fresh seat you refuse. It is also one of only two states that halves the government deposit for reserved categories.
Uttarakhand follows the standard shape: a free Round 1, then forfeiture on any fresh seat you refuse. It is also one of only two states that halves the government deposit for reserved categories.
This page covers the HNBUMU state counselling for the 85% Uttarakhand quota in government colleges and the seats in private colleges.
Who runs it
The Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University conducts counselling at hnbumu.ac.in for the state quota.
Security deposit, by category
The government deposit carries a reserved-category concession; the private deposit is flat.
| You are filing for | Security deposit (refundable) |
|---|---|
| Government colleges (general, EWS) | ₹10,000 |
| Government colleges (SC, ST, OBC) | ₹5,000 |
| Private medical / dental colleges | ₹1,00,000 |
A registration fee of around ₹6,500 covers Rounds 1 to 3, flat across categories. The deposit returns on a clean exit and is forfeited for a fresh allotment refused from Round 2.
How the rounds work
Round 1 is a free exit: an allotment you skip costs nothing. Miss the free-exit date, though, and a refusal starts costing you. Rounds 2 and 3 run on exit-with-forfeiture: a fresh allotment you do not join forfeits the security money. Private candidates carry the ₹1,00,000 deposit, so the loss in the later rounds is real.
Reservation and eligibility
Domicile. Uttarakhand domicile, with the 85% state quota restricted to domicile candidates.
Reservation. Uttarakhand applies SC, ST, OBC and EWS reservation with PwD as a horizontal quota, on the state roster. The exact percentages are set by the HNBUMU brochure for the year; read them there rather than assuming a figure, as the state's split differs from its neighbours.
What this means for your choices
Watch the Round 1 free-exit cut-off, because after it passes the cheap exit is gone and a refusal forfeits the deposit. Reserved-category candidates benefit from the halved government deposit, but the private ₹1,00,000 carries the usual later-round forfeiture risk. From Round 2, list only what you will join.
