The Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) category provides a 10% reservation in Maharashtra government, government-aided, corporation, and private unaided institutions (excluding minority institutions). This reservation applies to the Maratha community, classified as SEBC under the Maharashtra State Reservation (of seats for admission in Educational Institutions in the State and for appointments in the Public Services and posts under the State) for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) Act, 2024. As of the 2026 counselling cycle, this reservation continues under interim court orders while challenges to the Act are heard by a Full Bench of the Bombay High Court (Justices Ghuge, Jamadar, and Marne). The Supreme Court has also agreed to hear related petitions. Candidates must produce an SEBC Caste Certificate, a Caste Validity Certificate (a six-month grace period from the date of admission applies for submission), and a Non-Creamy Layer Certificate valid for the current financial year, along with an income certificate.
The SEBC (Socially & Educationally Backward) category has cutoff data available across 63 medical colleges in Maharashtra. This data covers 1 year of counselling from 2025. Closing ranks for this category range from 6,350 (most competitive) to 1,60,010 (least competitive).
